JC1 to JC2 Headstart

NicoleClassroomAbout 3 minutes at a natural pace. The cold open (H1) alone cuts as a 30 second Reel; H1 + H2 + H7 as a 60 second versionRegister at tuitiongenius.com/headstart
The feeling: A senior who has just been through it, half joking about December, fully serious about the plan. Light, then clear.
H1Cold open: my December, explained by JC1 Econs0:00 to 0:37

When I finished promos, I did what every J1 does. I opened Netflix. And then my JC1 Econs kicked in.

Diminishing marginal utility. Episode one, incredible. Episode nine at 3am, I felt nothing.

Opportunity cost. Every episode is one Macro chapter I am not reading. And Macro is the bulk of JC2.

Sunk cost fallacy. Your promo grade? Sunk. You cannot get those marks back. What you do with October to December? Not sunk. That part you still control.

So here is the plan.

NICOLE

Deadpan. Phone in hand for the Netflix line, then put it face down on the desk on 'so here is the plan'. The sunk cost beat is the turn: drop the joke voice and say it kindly. That line is the whole video.

Camera

Each concept name pops in as a chalk-style caption when she names it. On 'not sunk', the caption 'October to December: not sunk' replaces it and holds.

ETG Headstart is the JC1 to JC2 programme. It runs from the week of 19 October to the end of December. 16 lessons.

It does three things. It goes back over the JC1 Micro that your promo paper flagged. It starts Macro before school does. And it builds the skills that score: essays, case studies, evaluation.

So when your school starts Macro in January, it is the second time you are seeing it, not the first.

NICOLE

Three fingers for three things. Hold up Macroeconomics Express on 'starts Macro before school does'. The last line is the promise of the programme, said as a fact.

The first four lessons are Pre-Headstart, in October and November. The 2008 financial crisis, taught through a Hollywood film. Behavioural economics. A review of the top questions from J1 promo papers across Singapore. And seven Micro questions you must have settled before J2.

Then Headstart proper. Introduction to Macroeconomics on 17 November. A review of the 2026 A Level questions, the week after the paper. Four content crashcourses. Four skills crashcourses. Singapore's fiscal policy. And a comparison of two economies' standard of living, which Mr Toh films on location in another city, and that lesson is free.

There are two tracks.

The Complete Headstart Programme is all 16 lessons. It is $1,200, which is pay for 12 lessons and get 4 free.

The Intensive Crashcourse is the 8 core sessions: the four content crashcourses and the four skills crashcourses. It is $680.

If your promo paper said your Micro is not solid yet, take Complete. If your content is fine and it is the writing you want, take Intensive.

Both tracks come with over $200 of printed materials, written by Mr Toh.

Microeconomics Express. Macroeconomics Express. The Diagrams Booklet. The Summary Book. The Exercise Book.

And the Headstart Textbook, Economics Volume 4, the new 2026 edition. One chapter per lesson. This is the one you work from.

NICOLE

Extra takes

Alt 1

The textbook first

This is Economics Volume 4, the Headstart Textbook. If you are in JC1 and promos are over, this is what your October to December looks like. Let me show you.

Show the thing in the first frame. Best for a Reel where the cold open bit may be too long. Film it holding the textbook to the lens, then flipping.

Alt 2

The plain gap

From January to May next year, you cover the second half of the whole syllabus. Macro. At the same time it is CCA peak season. So the stretch from now to December is the one stretch where nobody is adding to your plate. Here is what to do with it.

Mr Toh's insight in a peer's mouth, no joke. Straight explainer for a parent-heavy audience or the website.

Before the shoot

On the table

Confirm with Mr Toh

  1. The Headstart page says 'October to December'. The letter says lessons start in the week of 19 October. The scripts say 'the week of 19 October'. Confirm.
  2. Prices as on the page today: Complete $1,200 (pay 12, get 4 free) and Intensive Crashcourse $680. Confirm these hold for the 2026 run before the video airs.
  3. Bring a printed Economics Volume 4 (2026 edition) if one exists, plus the five other books. If no printed copy exists yet, the presenter holds last year's Volume 4 and Bazli overlays the 2026 cover and pages (HS-A06, HS-A07 and HS-A11 to A21).
  4. The free standard-of-living lesson: the letter lists it as a free extra. The website lists 'Comparing Standards of Living' as Lesson 16. The scripts call it 'a free lesson filmed on location'. Confirm that wording.
  5. Is Ms Cherilyn happy to be named as the Upper Thomson tutor on camera?

Notes for Nicole before reading the script

The audience is a J1 who has just sat promos. They are relieved, a bit tired, and about to decide what to do with October to December. We are not warning them. We are showing them a plan that makes January easier, and we are doing it with a smile.

The cold open is a bit: you explain your December using JC1 Econs. It works because they just sat those concepts, and because the last beat (sunk cost) turns into the honest point. Play it deadpan, not sitcom. If a line does not feel like you, swap the example but keep the concept.

After the cold open, the video is plain: what Headstart is, the lessons, the two tracks, the books, where it runs, the link. Every number and date has been checked. Say them as written.

Film section by section. Say the code before each section (say 'H2', pause, go). For H1, do three takes: the jokes land better when you are bored of them.

You are not claiming you took Headstart. You are the senior explaining what it is. Any 'I' in the script is about your own December, and if it is not true for you, change it to something that is.

Say this, not that
